"I continue to maintain the serious theological view that dogs give the closest thing to God's unconditional grace that we will receive this side of the veil. Those of us who properly love our dogs in return hurt ever so badly when they hurt. Saying goodbye to them is ridiculously difficult." Todd-Paul Taulbee
I won't go into it, but something happened today that made me immediately want to call my Daddy. I needed his advice on how to handle it.
I can't. I need to let it out and get answers, and I can't. So I wrote:
It's easy to push the button, it says Daddy's Home
but the cell phone sits there unused
because in fact, Daddy's gone
He passed away a week ago, we buried him Tuesday
I've made it through the week somehow
But I'm not so good today.
My Daddy was a simple man, just did what seemed to be right
So when things went wrong in my life
I'd turn to him for advice.
But Daddy's no longer with us now, and I'm in need to know
how would have daddy handled this
I hate he had to go.
It's just me now, and my brother, to hold the family name
doesn't mean a thing to some people
for them it's just money to claim
Well my Daddy taught us one thing, yep we learned that lesson well
if a man is called to battle, don't step in quietly
yell
We're still reeling over here tonight from the loss of my father. It wasn't unexpected; it wasn't an event out of it's time; it wasn't something we hadn't thought about; and at the end it wasn't something we weren't praying for. But when your mind heads that way, the hurt floods in on waves of sorrow. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything.
And yet, everytime I go there, I also think of the incredible love shown to me and my family by the people of New Hope. You guys are awesome! You've done so much, and I know if I let you, you'd do more.
Thanks for showing us what the verse above is all about.
